Imago for me is primarily about transition. One definition of the word Imago is the final adult stage in the metamorphosis of winged insects. It was filmed in October and the idea came to me during a two-week quarantine in Toronto. It stems from my effort during that confinement to process thoughts and feelings around the COVID-19 pandemic. I began thinking of the things I miss in a world that somehow continues to move forward with many parts removed. During this time of so much being lost. I am also aware of other things emerging. It is as though deeper layers of us - perseverance, appreciation, patience, acceptance, and humility - are reasserting and showing through. It made me think about how we come to terms with loss. Imago is about these moments of inner-connection and finding strength that allows us to begin to let go. -David Shimotakahara
