GroundWorks first encountered Roni Koresh’s work at the Spring to Dance Festival in St. Louis and the company was immediately struck by its physicality and raw emotion. It has been described as coming straight from the gut. Roni looks for how the body’s physicality can communicate in real and visceral ways. He is very interested in harnessing the use of momentum, opposition, and sudden dynamic shifts to create an intensity and focus, which is a signature of his aesthetic. In “CoDa” we are part of a very old and timeless journey searching for all the things that give our lives meaning, and in our trying and our failings, revealing something about our humanity. Commissioned in 2011, Koresh’s “CoDa” is set to haunting and exuberant music by French composer Rene Aubry and communicates a full range of life experiences with passion and humanity.
