This past month GroundWorks DanceTheater partnered with The University of Akron’s Dance Institute to offer 15-25 intermediate to advanced students the opportunity to work with GroundWorks’ Artistic Director David Shimotakahara and learn from professional company artists.
Now in it’s tenth year of participation in this program, GroundWorks offered a series of workshops focusing on various aspects of technique, choreography, and improvisation. The participants were exposed first-hand to the artistic process of David Shimotakahara and the GroudWorks company by experiencing dance as it is created, rehearsed and performed. The students are also given new insights and access to hone their dance skills in ways that may not be available to them through their regular training curriculum.
GroundWorks was thrilled to be a part of this program for yet another amazing year. The exchange of ideas and processes from teacher to student and vice versa is always at the heart of this organization. We can’t wait until next year!
