The ideas for LUNA really came out of a staging challenge. We were interested in challenging some of the conventions of how dances often transition, with dancers going in and out of wings at the beginning and end of each section. That process created focus on a limited area of the stage that the dancers could work in and around. This eventually became a circle, and began a number of associations. We also had been working with various movement ideas around the opposing concepts of lost and found and give and take. The material from exploring these polarities was developed into a series of physical relationships which recombine and accumulate and offer us different facets in a cycle of experience. That cycle is like the moon as mysterious as it is familiar; the ways we get caught trying to hold onto things, and ultimately must come to terms with letting go in order to find something new.
