Ian is a Cleveland based criminal defense lawyer and founding partner of Friedman & Nemecek, L.L.C. He represents people and entities across the United States and globally. The Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers named him the first ever “Lawyer of the Year,” in recognition of his professional accomplishments. He is a regular author, speaker and media legal analyst. He is also an Adjunct Law Professor at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he teaches about Cybercrime. His cases frequently garner national and international attention.
He is married to Jamie Starkey who heads the Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Therapy Clinics at the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Integrative & Lifestyle Medicine. He has two wonderful kids – Madeline and Gabriel. 8 year old Madeline is mortified that her father is dancing in her ballet studio in anticipation of the show.
In his limited spare time, Ian loves to travel, fish, and just spend time with his family. When he was 18 years old, he tried to be noticed in Manhattan in an attempt to become a dancer on Club MTV. Even though he did not make it beyond Madonna’s Vogue, he has always been rather confident in his dance floor moves – that is until he began practicing with his partner Felise Bagley. It was only then, at age 45, that he realized that he actually may not have that dancer’s physique, grace or ability to even bend. Nevertheless, he loves the arts, this process, and the fact that he periodically finds himself subconsciously gyrating at home or in the courtroom.
