Seven local celebrities to be paired with GroundWorks DanceTheater pros to benefit GroundWorks Education and Outreach programs in Northeast Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio (February 6, 2012) – Local celebrities will team up with GroundWorks DanceTheater artists to perform original duets as part of “It Takes Two” on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Windows on the River in Cleveland.   All proceeds will support GroundWorks Education and Outreach Programs serving children throughout greater Cleveland and Akron.   This is the fourth year for GroundWorks’ very unique and highly successful benefit gala.

The 2012 celebrity guest dancers are:  Lev Gonick, Vice President, Information Technology Services and Chief Information Officer, CWRU; Jeffrey Grover, President, Grover Group LLC; Sandra Kiely Kolb, Board Chair, Cleveland Playhouse; Jakki Nance, President, Philanthropic Solutions, Ltd; Jan L. Roller, Attorney, Davis & Young; Joy Roller, Executive Director, Gordon Square Arts District; and Steven Standley, Chief Administrative Officer, University Hospitals. University Hospitals is a Lead Corporate Sponsor of the event.

“Benefit attendees will have an opportunity to vote with dollars for their favorite celebrity dance couple,” explained David Shimotakahara, GroundWorks’ Executive

Artistic Director.  “The couple who raises the most money will be declared our winner.”

GroundWorks has been recognized by the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts for its commitment to the community through its education and outreach programs.  Under the direction of coordinator Mark Otloski, GroundWorks serves a diverse population of approximately 1,000 students each year, through its own workshops and in partnership with the Young Audiences of Greater Cleveland Arts In Education program.

The evening will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres beginning at 6 pm and a buffet dinner at 7:30.  Celebrity dance performances will begin at 8:30 followed by dancing for everyone with Moss Stanley and Nitebridge and the announcement of the winning dance pair.

Now in its 13th season, GroundWorks was founded by Shimotakahara in 1998 and is dedicated to the development and presentation of new choreography and collaborations.  The five-member Company performs new works by Shimotakahara and artistic assistant Amy Miller, as well as commissioned work by nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographers including Ronen Koresh, Dianne McIntyre, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Jill Sigman, Gina Gibney, David Parker and others.
